Hummingbird

Dreams of wings
strum the air,
I turn from my winter walk
and there you are,
a crimson tulip risen from from asphalt
impossible like
sunlight at night like
a violet in the tundra,
there you are
green and jeweled
your head red celebration,
for a moment
there is only you,
earth’s beating heart
sipping nectar from the puddle
on an ordinary day
wings painting sky,
when you finally rise to the fir tree
a play of light in my eyes
I stand careful,head raised
God on my breath
